My Role

As a user experience designer on this project, my role was to perform UX research, design wireframes and

visuals, build a design system, perform UI governance as well as document the entire project.

Project Overview

Mobileum is a leading provider of telecom analytics solutions for roaming, core network, security, risk management, domestic and international connectivity testing, and customer intelligence. Quovantis helped Mobileum design and manage various tools across these domains to help U.S. telecom companies read and analyze data on the platform.

Project Outcome

This native web portal enabled testing engineers to simulate and test roaming networks remotely, while being physically located in their home country. It leveraged Mobileum’s patented device (‘cell’), which recreated roaming conditions within a lab environment to support accurate and efficient testing

This product transformed how engineers conducted roaming network testing, resulting in significant time and cost savings for the company.

One constraint we had in this project :

Brand visual guidelines

We were asked to stick with ‘Mobileum Blue’ and ensure the colors could be easily changed in case the product was white labeled for other companies.

THE ASK

Mobileum had the technology, a patented cell that could simulate a roaming network from the home country, but needed an interface that engineers could use to control the cell and perform tests.

We began by consulting the engineering team to understand the new product’s functionality, reviewed the current state, and analyzed requirement documents. Key takeaways included:

RRT (Remote Radio Testing) will have 3 main users : Testing engineer, Operator and Admin

This product will allow users to peform actions based on their roles during the testing operations.

Ambiguity

Unclear user flows

Since this technology was new to them, they were not clear about the user flow or the stakeholders involved in each functionality.

Not sure about user permissions

While they were still exploring the concept of user profiles, it was up to us to determine which users would have access to specific functionalities.

Analyzing & Strategizing

Mapping attributes to define functionality

To ensure smooth operations, we mapped out every necessary attribute and action for each screen, then validated this structure with stakeholders.

Defining roles

After reviewing the current testing protocols and their goals, we created a set of targeted questions for each operator to clarify their needs for the portal.

User flows and wireframes were reviewed and tested by engineers, operators, and project managers before moving to high-fidelity designs. We also used reusable components to support future product scaling.

Wireframes

Before testing the network, users must complete the network configuration. They can either schedule a specific time slot or book the next available slot, depending on network availability.

A test engineer will perform the network testing in a laboratory where cell is kept to stimulate the foreign network and this is when the devices are connected and test session is active
